412 Parade Rehabilitation
Virginia Military Institute
Lexington, Virginia
412 Parade, located at Virginia Military Institute, serves as the residence for the Superintendent. A National Historic Landmark, this remarkable building is one of the finest surviving examples of pioneering architect Alexander Jackson Davis’ work. Built in 1860, it was one of three faculty houses originally situated near the Parade Ground.
Glavé & Holmes was commissioned to carefully rehabilitate the structure, preserving its historic integrity while updating key elements. The project included restoring the exterior, replacing the roof, selecting interior finishes, and modifying select areas of the layout. In addition, all building systems were upgraded, and ADA accessibility improvements were made, ensuring the building meets modern standards while honoring its rich history.
