Alumni House
Christopher Newport University,
Newport News, Virginia
CHRISTOPHER NEWPORT UNIVERSITY’S (CNU) campus buildings feature elements of the traditional classical orders from Tuscan to Corinthian. In keeping with the established character of the campus, Glavé & Holmes Architecture (G&HA) designed the Alumni House in the Doric order. On axis with the plaza and entry gate of the University, the building is located southwest of the Great Lawn, McMurran Hall, and the David Student Union. The new Alumni House adds stature and vibrancy to this area of campus.
To evoke a feeling of home, welcome, and warmth for CNU’s alumni, current students, visitors, and faculty and staff, the Alumni House is similar in style and character to a Virginia country estate house. At two stories and 11,800 square feet, the building includes a reception space, a sitting room, library, conservatory, conference rooms, offices and terraces.
