Campus Drive Parking Deck, Police & Parking Offices
College of William and Mary,
Williamsburg, Virginia
THE CAMPUS DRIVE Parking Deck at the College of William & Mary houses a 500-car garage as well as the college’s Campus Police Station and Traffic & Parking Department offices. The project began with a programming study to identify and evaluate the needs of various user groups and constituents. Glavé & Holmes Architecture’s (G&HA) resulting design called for the structure’s façades to respond to elements found on adjacent buildings, integrating both the architectural language of the historic campus and the more recent ‘60s-style buildings in the immediate vicinity. Two stairwells and an elevator provide vertical circulation within the garage and, in the future, may connect to the adjacent Adair Hall to provide disabled access. Access from behind the garage is to enhance the safety of patrons moving to and from their vehicles.
