The Covenant School Master Plan

The Covenant School
Huntington, West Virginia

The Covenant School, currently located in downtown Huntington, was recently gifted a picturesque hilltop property in the mountains of West Virginia. To envision its future, the school partnered with Glavé & Holmes Architecture to assess the site, develop a campus program, and design a new home that embraces the dramatic topography and sweeping mountain views.

Inspired by neo-Georgian architecture, the campus is organized around a series of intimate courtyards that serve as outdoor classrooms—blurring the lines between indoor and outdoor learning and allowing natural light to fill the interiors. At its center, a domed building will serve as the heart of campus life, housing administrative offices along with the chapel, library, and dining hall. On either side, dedicated buildings for the upper and lower schools will support academic growth across all grade levels. Future phases will introduce a gymnasium and a fine arts building to round out the academic and co-curricular offerings.

The design also celebrates the natural landscape with generous outdoor amenities, including an athletic field with a running track, scenic hiking trails, and a terraced amphitheater that aligns with the central building and takes full advantage of the site’s rolling terrain.
