Westhampton Commons

Richmond, Virginia

G&H has created a vibrant mixed-use development on the campus of a historic 1917 school building on Patterson at Libbie Avenues. The first phase of this four-acre site development includes three distinct buildings – the 26,000 sf school repurposed as office space, a 100,000 sf mixed-use building with 50,000 sf of Class-A office/retail and 66 apartments, and a 380-space parking deck wrapped with an additional 62 apartment units. The project brings vibrant street-level activity to the neighborhood with shops, services, and a flourishing restaurant with an outdoor patio.

The project has responded to the strong residential and commercial market demand in this particular location, a popular and thriving neighborhood centered on “The Avenues” – the collective term for the intersections of Libbie, Patterson and Grove. Westhampton Commons fits its context by connecting pedestrians and cyclists to the neighborhood’s network, while accommodating motorists, and offers to the community a shared green space that features a new monument that commemorates the Westhampton School’s role in racial desegregation in the City of Richmond.

Market response to Westhampton Commons Phase 1 sparked the creation of Phase 2, a 122,000 sf mixed-use companion to Phase 1, with 52,000 sf of Class-A office and 54 luxury apartment units. Phase 2 is currently under construction and scheduled to be completed in 2025.
